"Lack of care and help"

About: Charleston Resource Centre General practices in Greater Glasgow & Clyde

(as the patient),

Just wanted to say that the help and care I have not received is beyond ridiculous.  My GP put me on medication for my mental health and I have been on those meds for the last 6 or 7 years. I put in my repeat prescription to be delivered to a new pharmacy which the GP was aware of. When I asked for my prescription, I was told it wasn’t there. I rang the GP surgery who said there had been a mistake and that it would be sorted. The ‘new’ prescription was completely wrong, and the medicine provided to myself – a suicidal mental health patient - was extremely dangerous, the results could have been horrifying and potentially life-threatening. I explained this to the surgery, but they did not seem to care. I have rung again today but the receptionist spoke over me constantly and I was made to feel that it was my fault although I have done nothing wrong.

I still do not have my medication and have now been without them for a week, I can not go out and am scared to leave the house.

Previously, I had spoken with my GP and asked for more help with my mental health. I was referred to the Charleston centre, I spoke to someone one time and have now been discharged! How is that care? No help!

Dear Volanshb59

Thank you for your post on Care Opinion. I am sorry to hear about the difficulties you have been experiencing with your medication. As GP’s are independent contractors with a separate feedback and complaints system I would suggest speaking to the Practice Manager to voice your concerns. (GP’s are not registered to respond directly to feedback through Care Opinion).

If you don't feel comfortable contacting the Practice Manager, you can contact the Patient Advice and Support Service (PASS). This is an independent service which provides free and confidential advice to patients about NHS healthcare. The service is provided by the Citizens Advice Bureau. The help line number is 0800 917 2127 and this is the website: www.patientadvicescotland.org.uk

You have mentioned that you still need support, if you speak to your GP they can make a referral to Mental Health Services. If you need urgent help you can call NHS 24 on 111. If you just need to talk with someone, then the following organisations can help: Samaritans - 116 123 (freephone) Breathing Space - 0800 83 85 87 (freephone).

Kind Regards

Nicole
