"Service I should have received but didn't"

About: Mater Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as a service user),

Attended the Mater A&E in March 2020 with what now relates to Covid symptoms they weren’t busy & I had wait almost 2 hours on paracetamol for a high temperature not that they remembered to bring them my mum had to go & ask for them - staff seemed unpleasant & unhelpful & stayed in the nurses station talking & eating quality street , I observed a mental health patient from the same ward as me  had went missing for around 1hr 30 mins & staff hadn’t even realised they were missing. When they rang security to check the cameras they claimed the patient had only went missing - security rang back & corrected the exact length of time they were missing to the staff member replying didn’t seem that length of time !!

Covid test wasn’t suggested nor done nor was I isolated from the other 4 patients .

Glad I came across this site for patients to comment on the services they should receive but don’t .

Dear Ruby20

My name is Kate Arthurs and I am the Lead nurse for the Mater Emergency Department in Belfast Health and Social Care Trust.

Thank you for sharing your story on Care Opinion.

Firstly, I would like to apologise for the experience that you had while attending The Mater Accident & Emergency Department. The events you are describing certainly fall well below the standards I expect. I intend to share this story with staff for reflection so I can ensure that learning outcomes are achieved.

I would like to give you the opportunity to contact me directly on kate.arthurs@belfasttrust.hscni.net so we can discuss some of the issues you raised.

I look forward to hearing from you,

Best wishes,

Kate
