"I fully appreciate the need for screening, but..."

About: General practices in Lanarkshire

(as a service user),

This is with regards to the screening that the receptionists at the Houldsworth Centre, Wishaw - Dr Clark's Practice,  undertakes.

I fully appreciate the need for screening as it helps to prevent un-necessary appointments and helps to signpost patients elsewhere if required.

However, on the two occasions I have contacted the surgery, the receptionists have come across as being cold, rude and disinterested. Also, being asked in great detail the reason why I am calling - again I understand for screening reasons, however, it makes me feel incredibly uncomfortable and I know I am not the only person that feels this way.

It would be good to be made to feel listened to and not immediately "fobbed off". I rarely contact my GP, mainly because I do not have to attend my GP unless I really have to. Unfortunately, due to the experiences I have had with the receptionists at Dr Clark's practice, I am even more loath to contact the surgery for fear of having my symptoms "rubbished" by the receptionist staff.

Dear hk38,

Thanks for getting in touch, however I'm sorry to read about your concerns at your loclal GP Practice.

GP's are independant contractors and so are responsible for looking into a person's concerns about their services. If it would be helfpul I can forward on a copy of your story to your local practice manager and ask them to look into this for you and report back?

If you would like me to do so, please let me know you. You can reach us at:

01698 858 321 or patientaffairs.primarycare@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk

Alternatively you can contact them directly.

Many thanks

Laura
