"Massive thank you to a member of staff."

About: Bradford Royal Infirmary / Trauma and orthopaedics

I came in Friday for a shoulder operation and the level of care and support provided by one member of staff was amazing. The member o9f staff helped me to get dressed, brought me tissue when I sneezed, got me a sandwich and a hot drink. They kept me company when sat alone unattended for a long time after my operation. I was some what shocked how the other nurses spoke to them as they were not friendly and patient focused. After the member of staff left their shift (they actually offered to wait and help me carry my bags). I was left for a long time without any update on when I could leave, I was given no prescription and it took hours to get the needle removed from my hand which was painful. The 5 ratings for staff and dignity only apply to this member of staff the others would have got a lot lower!! Otherwise the operation went well the consultant was lovely as was the aneasetist. And the person who took me to theatre was really reassuring. Thank you

Hello, thank you very much for taking the time to give us your feedback, so soon after your surgery, we do appreciate it, and hope you are recovering well.

It is really good to hear that some of the members of staff you met were so helpful and kind, and aware of what you needed. That is of course what we want all our staff to be like, and it is disappointing that you felt other staff did not behave in this way. I will pass this on to the matron and Sisters for the ward, along with your other concerns. We know that sometimes it can take longer than we would like to have everything ready for discharge, and understand it is helpful to have an update on what is happening. I am sorry that did not happen.

If you would like to talk to us any more about this please get in touch with patient.experience@bthft.nhs.uk we will be happy to help.
