"Thanks from the bottom of our hearts"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / Neonatal Unit

(as a parent/guardian),

My baby was born recently & came straight to the neonatal ICU in Craigavon Area Hospital. Later that day she was diagnosed with sepsis as a result of an infection prior to delivery. This was devastating news to receive as parents & was our darkest hour.

The care from the staff for both ourselves & my baby that day & onwards to today has been exceptional. My baby was given a targeted antibiotic immediately & this helped her infection numbers to start to come down after a couple of days. Her sisters & brother both met her & read her some stories during which she opened her eyes & reacted to their voices, this proved to be a key turning point for her recovery.

We had begun to travel away from the darkness & into the light on her journey.  After 4 days she was switched from ventilation to sipap as she began her road to recovery.  Throughout her journey we were kept informed of each step & what tests / treatments were ahead by the great staff on the ward.

Her journey continued & still carries on in the HDU of the neonatal ward as she has now gone down to lo flo support & continues to steadily improve day by day. The help & support of all the staff - & in particular the motto to never give up as each day is a new milestone - was of great comfort to both her mummy & daddy on her journey.

Words of thanks are simply not enough credit to the wonderful team that have cared & continue to care for her, but thanks from the bottom of our hearts.

Dear Patrick815

Your story as you have shared it, demonstrates just how important it is to take each day as it comes and treasure all the steps of progress no matter how small.

The staff in neonatal could never under estimate the emotional impact for parents as they journey through our unit.

Thank you for acknowledging the support and help you received and we are delighted that as a family, you had opportunities to be together and create memories

Regards

Una Toland

Thank you Patrick815 for taking the time to provide this feedback and telling us about your daughter's journey so far in our neonatal unit. We know that it can be stressful and frightening for parents who have a sick baby but it is wonderful to hear that she is making progress due to the care being given by the staff in the neonatal unit, no doubt helped by cuddles from her parents.

I will ensure that the staff are made aware of your thanks and wish you and your family all the best. David
