"Sadly I will be reverting to YouTube"

About: Lanarkshire Community Services / Audiology

(as a relative),

I attended the audiology open clinic with my mum in Central Health Centre Cumbernauld.

I explained our situation and felt that the staff member offered no sympathy and said the hearing aids required no maintenance from me, are easy to operate and was, I felt,  very dismissive of my enquiry. My mum really struggles with the hearing aids. I was keen to learn. Sadly I will be reverting to you tube!

Is it too much to expect some courtesy and a tiny bit of human interest. This would change the impression dramatically.

My dad has just passed away and he looked after the day to day maintenance of my mum hearing aids. I attended with mum today and was sad to see the interaction with her and other patients. It was non existent, there was no eye contact and no hello, how can we help.

Dear Good outcome

I am sorry to hear that your experience at Central Health Centre was a negative one, and that you felt that the staff member was not sympathetic to the concerns you had whilst you were in clinic with your mum.

It is extremely important that staff take time to listen and advise patients and carers on hearing aid care and maintenance. To hear that this was not the case is disappointing.

Looking at your post, it looks as though you may have been looking for some help in allowing you to help with the maintenance of your mum's hearing aids.

We run training and education courses for both patients and carers to allow people, to learn how to care for hearing aids.

If you would like to get in touch with me on 01698 456550 I could help to arrange this for you.

My apologies again that your experience was a negative one, and hopefully we can provide some help for you to help care for your mum's hearing aids.

Kind Regards

Robbie Rooney
