"Walking into A&E with a broken neck!"

About: East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust / Emergency ambulance Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Trauma and orthopaedics Pilgrim Hospital / Accident and emergency Pilgrim Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics Pilgrim Hospital / X-ray and Scans

(as a service user),

I brought my husband into A&E as his “whiplash” from a crash whilst banger racing wasn’t improving. Following an X-ray and two CT scans it was revealed that he had an unstable fracture to C2 (Hangman’s fracture). All the staff from triage through to the three doctors/consultant, during our experience, were amazing! They took it seriously and our waiting times were very good.

We spent much of the time on one of the four central beds where we felt like we were in the way all the time but staff insisted that we were absolutely fine as they worked round us. Within 9 hours of arriving we were transferred to QMC where he was eventually put into a Halo collar and is now 3 weeks into a 12 week treatment plan. We would like to send our appreciation to all the staff involved in his care during that shift please. Thank you.

Thank you for including our orthopaedic trauma team at QMC when sharing your experience of your husband's care. We are glad that you both felt he was in safe hands at every stage of his patient journey. We wish him the very best for his recovery.
