"Terrible"

This is an awful unit and our daughter is still deeply traumatised by her recent admission.

The quality of care was poor and staff did not involve us or our daughter in her plan of care. The physical environment was cramped, overcrowded, dirty and smelly, the food was inedible. Communication was terrible and chronic staff shortgages meant that staff responsiveness to patients and visitors was poor.

The whole environment was the opposite of therapeutic and it always seemed chaotic. No reasonable adjustments were made for special needs or disabilities and even basic human rights such as fresh air and excercise were sadly lacking.

The beautiful grounds and some of the available facilities are misleading because in the PICU the patients rarely if ever had access these.

It is astounding that such places still exist in this day and age and I would certainly never recommend allowing your loved one, or even worst enemy, to be admitted here.

Having just recently taken on the role of Hospital Director at Huntercombe Maidenhead I was naturally very disappointed to read your comments.

I have implemented a full improvement programme for the service and this programme focuses on quality of care, the physical environment and of course staffing. It's particularly important to me that we always have the correct mix and level of staffing to provide a high level of support and the best treatment possible for the young people we look after.

I notice that you have written this review anonymously but obviously I'd be delighted to talk through my plans should you wish to get in touch.

You can contact me on 01628 667881 or email alan.malin@huntercombe.com.

With best wishes, Alan Malin, Hospital Director, Huntercombe Hospital Maidenhead.
