"Trying to find out an MRI scan result"

About: Northwick Park Hospital / Neurology

(as the patient),

I was admitted to hospital with Pancreatitis, via A& E, and after a number of tests, the decision was to remove my Gall bladder, but an ultra-scan failed to find it. I was then discharged 3 days later and was advised I would need an MRI scan. This took place two weeks after I was admitted, and after 2 weeks of hearing nothing, I tried to chase the results. I called the MRI reception and was advised the report had been sent on the day of the scan, and I would need to speak to out-patients to book an appointment, Out-patients said that, as I had been admitted through A& E, I needed to speak to my GP. My GP surgery had not received any results so they phoned MRI, who advised them to ask me to speak to the ward I was on. I waited in a long queue to speak to switch board, who then tried to connect me to the Frederick Salmon nurses station. They did not answer so I was sent back to the switch board, they tried again but unfortunately cut me off, so I had to queue again, this time I was put through, but the ward said I needed to speak to Mr Zafar in general surgery and transferred me, unfortunately to Rhumatology by mistake. A very helpful man called Richard took my details, found out what I needed, called me back, and had my results faxed over to my doctors surgery. I cannot thank Richard enough for taking the time to sort out a problem that was nothing to do with his area. The man is a star, and if you have customer awards/recognition he certainly deserves one.

Dear Sir/Madam

Thank you for your feedback about the difficulties you have experienced in attempting to get your MRI result.

However, it is very pleasing to read that Richard was able to ensure your results were faxed over to your GP and took the time to deal with your concern. It is very heartening to hear that his good work has been recognised in such a way.

We will of course share your very kind words with the staff in rheumatology and Richard.

Thank you once again for taking the time to share your experience with us.

Kind regards

Pam
