"Works for few, but not for most."

About: Cassel Hospital

The Cassel hospital is made out to be The best place to get help for those suffering from personality disorders. However the expectation and reality are vastly different.

The Cassel's treatment regime may work for some but the amount of people is doesn't work for us equal if not greater. Some of the main issues could be easily rectified if the hospital was sufficiently staffed. For example, given that the majority of patients reside outside of London, there is zero support for those who have difficulty travelling.

The hospital is grossly under staffed, or at least that was the case during my "treatment". Treatment which after 9 months of incredibly hard work, made me worse rather than better.

I understand that those with BPD can be difficult to treat.

As I said the programme works for some, but in my opinion, until the staffing issues are fixed, the treatment is just plain dangerous.

Good luck to all current and future patients and I hope it works for you where it didn't for me.

Thank you for taking the time to send your feed back to us. We are sorry that the expectations of treatment at the Cassel have not been met.

The Cassel Hospital is a Tier 4 specialist service and one of a range of established services which offer treatment to patients with the diagnosis of Personality Disorder. Due to the geographical locations of the four Tier 4 inpatient services unfortunately this does require patients traveling long distances. We are sorry that your difficulties with travelling were not fully understood. We wholly accept that our treatment model may not work for everyone.

We do acknowledge that the nine months inpatient treatment is incredibly hard work and is solely the beginnings of a journey to recovery to effect positive changes to behaviours and relationships. The treatment relies on the work started at the Cassel to continue in the community, regardless of where the patients live. We work closely with the patients Local Teams and rely on them to continue this work. Feedback and evidence from our network of ex-patients confirm this to be the case.

We acknowledge there have been and are current staffing issues and we would like to reassure you that we are doing as much as we can to fill vacancies in a competitive market.

We are genuinely concerned by the statement “the treatment is just plain dangerous” and we would value any opportunity to gain a further understanding as to what you mean by this. We would be happy to do so by any means you feel comfortable with.

Again thank you for your feedback and please do feel free to contact us.

Amanda
