"A caring and efficient reception and longer..."

About: Good Hope Hospital / Urology

A quick A & E admission and 2 days later a slower readmission which were both good.

I saw little point in the move to Heartlands after 24 hours; they seemed to be unaware of why I had been sent, and their discharge of me the following day was followed by another A and E admission to Good Hope from home.

Time in AMU was good but an eventual move to spend some time in Ward 7 was not good, but perhaps unavoidable.

Here I saw caring nurses, dealing with dementia cases which should be a social responsibility - not hospital.

Wonderful dedication and patience.

On the penultimate evening I was moved at 11.15 p.m. but taken to a place (discharge office and then Day Care Unit) which offered a more peaceful environment for the night, for which I was grateful, though I suspect that the hospital was simply trying to cope with an excessive need for bed spaces.

The follow-up appointments in Ambulatory Care were well organised and efficient.

I was impressed with the overall atmosphere of the hospital, as far as I experienced it.

I understand that I cannot compliment individual people, which is a pity, as the Staff nurse in Ward 7 on the penultimate evening was particularly good; they were 'unflappable' and tried hard to keep things running smoothly.

Thankyou, Good Hope.

Dear Mr Mayes,

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments regarding your care and treatment at Good Hope Hospital.

I note that although your stay on Ward 7 was not good, I am pleased that overall, you had a good patient experience.

It is lovely to read that you found the nursing staff on Ward 7 to be so caring, as they do work extremely hard.

I will forward your posting to all of the relevant Senior Management teams, for the specialities that were involved in your care, so they are aware of your experience.

I will ask that your posting is shared with the relevant staff, so they are aware of your comments,

Once again, thank you for your posting.

All patient feedback is important to us, whether it is negative or positive, as this helps the Trust to improve our services and make changes where necessary.

We continually strive to improve our service for all patient’s and visitors.

Best wishes

Jenny Langham

Patient Services Officer
