On the 6th of October I was taken by Ambulance to A&E and initially I felt relieved that the terrible pain I was in would be dealt with.
I was triaged and taken to Lister Ward having been diagnosed with a skin infection.
I saw some Doctors the following day and they suggested treatment.
I requested that my infected sites be cleaned and dressed but the nursing staff refused as this was beyond their skill set.
I made a significant fuss and after waiting six hours, three infected sites were superficially cleaned and redressed.
After several days of the pain increasing I expressed my concern in no uncertain terms that I was dissatisfied with the nursing staff having no or limited knowledge in how to deal with skin infections.
I was eventually transferred to Trueta Ward and the pain I was suffering virtually ceased within days.
I put this down to the fact that on the night of the transfer the night staff on Trueta treated all of my wounds and successfully treated my infected areas.
If I had been placed on the appropriate ward and nurses with the correct skill set who denied me treatment or who were prepared to treat me as required, I would not have been in the hospital for as long as I was taking up a bed.
