"Chaos, bad communication and incompetence..."

About: King's College Hospital (Denmark Hill) / Trauma and orthopaedics

I was kept waiting for an hour and a half at the Orthopaedics department. When I asked staff why I was being kept waiting for so long, they told me I needed to go to the X-ray unit first - which they had neglected to tell me at the start. When I got to X-ray, I was told I'd need to wait around an hour as I was the last to arrive. So I went back to Orthopaedics and told them that I'd like to see the doctor even without a X-ray, as I knew (correctly) that I didn't need one. After over another half hour of waiting, when I finally got to see the doctor, who confirmed I was right about not needing an X-ray, but unfortunately they had the wrong patient data and I had been sent to the wrong doctor. There was no right doctor who could see me and I was told I'd need to seek a new appointment, which would mean another 5-6 weeks wait in addition to the 5-6 weeks I had already waited. I didn't receive any kind of apology for the error or for the waste of my day.

Really disgraceful service all round.

I am terribly sorry to hear about your experience of our orthopaedics department and would like to apologise on behalf of King's.

I'd really like to help with this and wonder you could contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service who will be able to look into what's gone wrong here and try to put it right.

This is not the service that we wish to provide and would like to learn from our mistakes.

PALS are contactable via email on: kch-tr.pals@nhs.net . Again, sincere apologies.
