"The whole episode made me uneasy and very uncomfortable."

About: Stirling Royal Infirmary / Dermatology

(as the patient),

My appointment at the dermatology unit at Stirling hospital left me feeling very uncomfortable.

I was referred to the dermatology clinic by my GP, I also have a mental health condition that makes me very uneasy if I am touched by someone who has not washed their hands and also need to check out my environment to help me feel at ease.

When I went in to see the doctor there was a large machine in the room, I started to ask questions about it and asked if I could have a look at it to put my mind at rest. Whilst the doctor was accommodating I was surprised when they left the room and returned with a nurse who sat with a notepad and observed the interview. I did not feel that this was needed, an earlier nurse had left us alone, presumably because there was no need to take notes. Rightly or wrongly I felt that the nurse had been brought in because the doctor was uncomfortable with me, even though I had explained my compulsion to them.

The whole episode made me uneasy and very uncomfortable.

Dear Lion658

Thank you for getting in touch to leave feedback about you recent appointment. I am terribly sorry your experience made you uneasy and uncomfortable. We just wouldn’t want that for you, or any other patient for that matter, when attending an appointment.

I am going to share this story with the rest of my team. We’ll think about how we can improve people’s experiences in our service. It so is important that we get it right for our patients when attending appointments.

I am not sure if you will be coming back to our service, but would really appreciate the opportunity to be in contact with you beforehand to make sure we get it right next time. Would you feel able to do that now, or when you get a future appointment date? You can contact me directly on 01786 434098/01324 566509 I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks again for giving us this feedback

Best wishes
