"Waiting time"

About: Darent Valley Hospital

After waiting for over an hour to park my car, I was then subjected to a one and half hour wait in the oral surgery unit. I appreciate clinics may run late and there are sometimes unforseen circumstances but there is no excuse for patients to sit in a corridor waiting room for hours on end and not to be told the clinic is running late or how long you will have to wait. I took time off work to keep my appointment at the hospital but as I had already been gone 3 hours I could not wait for my appointment and had to go back to work, when I asked for another appointment to be made I was then told it would be another two months! Unfortunately some people cannot take constant time off work and if I had been informed I would not been seen for two hours after the 10.15 appointment I could have come into the hospital much later. Perhaps a text could have been sent. Please ask your receiptionists to inform patients when there is a long wait.

Response from Darent Valley Hospital

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experiences at Darent Valley Hospital, we were very sorry to read about your difficulties. Unfortunately at certain times of the day parking can prove difficult, however we are pleased to report that there will be 101 new public spaces opening very soon. With regards to clinics overrunning, this can be due to a variety of unforeseen circumstances such as patients requiring longer with a doctor than expected. On investigating the issues you have raised, it does appear that this was the case on the day you visited, and we do apologise for the delay and frustration this caused you. With regards to a text being sent to let people know a clinic is running late, we are unsure how feasible this would be but we will look into it. Kind regards The Communication Team Darent Valley Hospital
