Thanks to everyone who joined us for our recent webinar, “Using Care Opinion in Hospice & Palliative Care Services.” It was great to bring together people working in hospices and palliative care settings across the UK, all passionate about improving care and learning from feedback.
Sharing Stories, Challenges & Ideas
The session was a chance to hear about the brilliant work happening in different services, and to talk honestly about the unique challenges of asking for and using feedback in this setting.
We know that gathering feedback in palliative care is very different from other service areas. It often involves people going through incredibly emotional times, and asking for feedback can feel delicate, even uncomfortable.
We talked about ways to ask for feedback sensitively, like:
- Starting the conversation early, not waiting until care has ended
- Framing it as a way to help future patients and their families
- Personalising your ask, as seen here by Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care Trust, who designed their own greeting cards
- Letting people share their story in their own time and words
Care Opinion: A Flexible Tool
A big theme from the session was that Care Opinion is just a tool - how you use it is what makes the difference.
Some of you are already using it to:
- Support staff learning and reflection
- Show the impact of your care
- Spot ways to improve services
- Celebrate the incredible (and often unseen) work your teams do
There’s no one “right” way to use it. What matters is finding what works for your team and the people you care for.

What’s Next?
We really enjoyed the conversations during the session and don’t want them to stop there. So we’re setting up a quarterly peer support group just for hospice and palliative care staff using Care Opinion.
These sessions will be a chance to:
- Share what’s going well
- Talk through any challenges
- Learn from each other
- Get new ideas and support
It’ll be a relaxed, informal space - no pressure, just an opportunity to connect and learn together.
Hospice and palliative care work is personal, emotional, and deeply meaningful. Feedback can be a powerful way to reflect, improve, and celebrate all that you and your teams do. Our support team are here to help you use Care Opinion in a way that works for you.
