Moderation - The Wizards Behind The Curtain

Moderation is key to what we offer at Care Opinion, ensuring that we provide a platform that's fair, constructive, and safe for both story authors and staff & services whilst still giving the opportunity for people to share their own story, in their own voice. Our dedicated team reads and moderates every story that's submitted through our platform before they're published.

In this parallel session as part of our 2022 Autumn conference, we were very pleased to offer a glimpse "behind the curtain" to try to demystify the story moderation process that lies at the core of Care Opinion's work, and the various roles of the moderation team. We hoped to outline what happens to a story between being submitted to the site by an author and when it’s published to the live website for viewing by the public, and opened up to response from services. We covered topics such as;

• What is moderation?
• Why and how we moderate
• The Care Opinion mission and values
• A look at the moderation team
• Safeguarding, criticality and contact with authors and services
• The structure of a story as seen in moderation
• Maintaining quality, and what matters most to us
