Mum spent over two weeks in hospital after falling and breaking her hip. It is fair to say there were ups and downs during her admission, but, on the whole the care provided was compassionate and professional.
The nurses were all stretched, shortages in staffing levels meant the teams were busy and not able to attend to care needs as quickly as they would like, however for the vast majority of time she was treated with kindness and dignity.
A point to note , mum often said she felt isolated and overlooked as she was in a side room. She explained that unless she was being attended to, all she saw of others was when they people passed by her door or when she had visitors. We did share this with staff but unfortunately there was nothing they could do to move her to a bay, thus her mental health did suffer.
Her recovery continues at home and we are thankful for the treatment she received that enabled her to return. The outcome could have been very different.
To all the professionals who were involved in mums care we applaud you for your commitments during such challenging times.
