"Paediatric admission"

About: Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary / Accident & Emergency Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary / Paediatrics

(as a parent/guardian),

My son was admitted to DGRI as an emergency. The fear I felt was awful, hopefully I never have to experience that again. That was helped from the moment we stepped into the A&E department to our discharge from the paediatric ward. In the short time in A&E the care he received was second to none, special mention to Lauren. We were then admitted to the Children’s ward where we were met by the reg, sorry but I’m sure his name was Matthias. He reassured both my husband and I and made sure we were understanding of everything that was happening as did the paediatrician. I can’t thank everyone enough for the care we received in there. Every one of you dealt with our son with compassion. Thank you!

Dear Fern88

Thank you for providing feedback about your sons recent emergency admission to DGRI. Please may I begin by apologising for the slight delay replying, posts such as yours are invaluable to us and ordinarily we would have hoped to have responded sooner.

I was so pleased to learn that the professionalism and dedication of my colleagues from the moment you went through the doors into A&E to the point you were discharged from the Paediatric Ward led to a positive outcome for your son and that you and your husband were reassured throughout.

As parents, we all dread the thought of what you went through and the fear and uncertainty when a child suddenly becomes acutely unwell and needs immediate treatment. To learn that my multi-disciplinary colleagues were able to assess and treat your son so optimally whilst at the same time putting your mind at rest is a credit to them and I will make sure they learn of your feedback.

We are fortunate to have such committed and dedicated staff in Dumfries and Galloway and I know that when colleagues learn that the work they do is so highly valued, it reinforces the view that we are doing the best we can for the patients we care for on a daily basis.

Thank you again for taking the time to submit your post.

With warmest regards,

James.
