"Received no reassurance"

About: Watford General Hospital / Dermatology

(as a service user),

Having waited nearly a year to be seen after a GP referral for a concerning mole and mark growing on face... and all the anxiety that comes with it, I was met by a dermatologist who seemed to have no care, compassion or kindness whatsover.

When you are at your most vulnerable, told to undress and wearing a mask (it was my face which was the problem) and receive no reassurance and made to feel like you are a waste of time is upsetting. I understand what a full check is and am grateful for that, but I felt like they had made their mind up about me beforehand and judged incorrectly. I was told to stop picking my skin as they clearly felt that was the problem... and had no problem expressing that. No consideration to the bleeding, scabbing cycle that occurs, increase growth of the mole or growing mark under my eye or other mole appearing as a black mark on my face. Zero patient care.

To have waited so long and then be told you can be referred on for a biopsy if you must like you're being a difficult person rather than someone who has waited a year believing it could be cancerous. Awful awful treatment of a person, and the seconds taken to look briefly is far from reassuring. Only the nurse also present seemed to have any care or knowlege how to treat someone in this situation.
