"The nurses have all been really nice"

About: Daisy Hill Hospital / Emergency Department Daisy Hill Hospital / Male Medical

(as the patient),

After developing sepsis, I came to Daisy Hill Hospital's Emergency Department. I was brought in very quick but I was left in a room for ages on my own. Most of the staff were lovely however.

Up on the Male Medical Ward all the nurses have been really nice. Their communication skills have been grand - I have been able to ask them anything and they always explain things well. The cleaners are always very nice and chat away to you as well. Martin and Caoimhe have been great.

When it comes to the food - it hasn't been great. There is not much of a variety. The food really is not the same as you would get at home.

The ward has been kept spotless - it has been cleaned every morning and the bed sheets are changed regularly.

The only issue I have had is that it has not been possible to turn off the air conditioning in my room so it is always freezing at night. Other than this I have no other suggestions for improvement.

Good morning, we would first like to thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your stay on Male Medical.

We are glad your experience was that of a positive one. I am pleased to hear that staff have communicated well with you throughout your admission - We strive to include our patients with their care and ensure they know what is happening every step of the way.

I will ensure the team including domestic staff, are all aware of your kind words - we really appreciate them.

In terms of the food, we are sorry you did not feel it was great. If you have any suggestions of improvement, please do not hesitate to contact the catering staff.

In terms of the ward, we are aware it can get cold at night. We have an overall thermostat that controls the temperature of the whole ward. This is controlled by estates but we do try and contact them and get it adjusted if needed.

If you are still an inpatient, please do not hesitate to raise this issue with a member of staff to try and get this resolved for your comfort.

Wishing you a speedy recovery,

Kind regards,

Jodie

Thank you for posting about your experience in Daisy Hill Hospital we do welcome all feedback to help us improve the service we offer.

I am sorry you were disappointed with the food variety and I have passed your comments to the Catering Team. Patient menus are reviewed regularly and feedback is taken into consideration as part of the review process.
