When my elderly mum fell and fractured her hip, she spent weeks in hospital trying to get back on her feet. She was extremely nervous when trying to walk again and had completely lost all her confidence. I think if she had a choice, she would have given up hope altogether.
When she was eventually discharged, the Newry & Mourne ICS team came to work with her to help her recover physically and to rebuild her confidence. Gradually over the weeks, we saw a real improvement in what she was able to achieve and the team were so encouraging and friendly that mum was always happy to see them coming.
I thought that this was a fantastic service and it really helped me and my family learn about what was possible and how we too could support and encourage mum to stand up and walk. I don't see how the service could have been any better, it was a godsend to us during a very emotional and stressful time. I'm happy to report that mum is now doing very well and is much more confident and mobile than when she left hospital.
"A fantastic service"
