"Post natal ward care"

About: New Cross Hospital / Maternity care

(as a service user),

I had an amazing ante natal service up until I had my surgery.  However my experience on the post natal ward ruined it all and makes it the worst CS experience I ever had. I was left groaning in pain.

I always had to ask for pain relief and it would always be delayed or denied. I was not offered any pain relief throughout the night of the day I had a Csection until the next morning when they offered me Ibuprofen and Cocodydramol. The experience was horrific.

I struggled in pain to care for my newborn for the 2 nights I spent there and the worst part is that partners are not allowed to stay. I cried! In fact, I had to keep enduring the pain due to fear of being denied pain relief.

I complained to the anaesthetist who came to the ward the next day after my surgery that I had a horrible experience and this and they confirmed that my prescription regime was not followed by the midwives. Hence, the reason for my pain. Looks like I had to suffer and then beg before being offered pain relief.

I spent those days on the ward feeling at their mercy. I am always sad each time I remember this experience.
