I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes three years ago after being admitted to hospital at the stage of Ketoacidosis.
This hit me very hard and I found it difficult to come to terms with my diagnosis. It was so confusing and complicated having to learn all about the insulin and carbohydrates. I had no alternative but to get on with my life and accept it. I was worried and felt very alone, however I had a good team at Ayr Hospital who helped me. There was one person in particular, Ruth (Diabetes Dietitian), who was extremely helpful. Ruth went out her way to help me, providing information and dietary advice which helped me greatly. Her kindness, consideration and friendly manner was greatly appreciated and I will truly miss Ruth.
