"Trying to get an appointment"

About: Sexual Health Services - North Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent (Open Clinic)

(as a service user),

I tried for hours to get through to book an appointment to have my contraceptive implant removed. I had it fitted by my GP 7 months ago and it has not suited me from the beginning. However, I waited till this point to ensure I had given my body enough time to adjust to it.

I originally contacted my GP this week, who said I would need to contact Cobridge health clinic to have it removed, as the GP trained in this was off due to unforeseen circumstances and for the foreseeable future.

After spending a few hours on and off trying to get to through yesterday, I gave up and tried again this morning.

Eventually I got through, and the member of staff I spoke to said there were no appointments available and they are not offering the service at the moment. They said I would need to go back to my GP and ask them to arrange something.

I contacted my GP again, who said they only had the one doctor trained on fitting and removing the implant (who is not there currently) and to contact Cobridge again and tell them I need a resolution as they can't help me.

I contacted Cobridge again to be told the same. They have no appointments available. The staff member on the telephone was very understanding and polite, however I am still in a situation where by I can't get seen to have the implant removed.

I am stuck in a situation whereby my everyday life is being affected due to the effects of the implant and I feel like there is nothing I can do to get this sorted.

Dear venusmw77

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on the service you received. I would like to apologise for the difficulties you have had with accessing an appointment for your implant to be removed. Our services are very busy but I can fully appreciate how frustrating it must be that your GP can't offer you an appointment and we have limited appointments available.

If you would be willing to email me your name, date of birth and a contact telephone number, with a preferred day and time to call, I will ask one of my team to get in touch with you to arrange a suitable appointment.

Kind regards.
