"Sheer bliss"

About: Fife Community Services / District Nursing Fife Health & Social Care Partnership Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance Victoria Hospital / Admissions Unit 1 (Emergency Medical) Victoria Hospital / Gastroenterology Victoria Hospital / General Surgery Victoria Hospital / Radiology

(as a service user),

Overnight, my legs swelled up to a ridiculous state, making my ability to move extremely difficult - to the point where I was immobile, so my husband phoned for assistance. Took hours until they arrived - NOT their fault - completely overworked. The paramedics thoroughly examined me and admitted me to hospital in August. They were friendly, helpful and professional. On arrival at Admissions, Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, I was checked and monitored before moving to ward 1, Admissions.

I was moved to ward 53 and my final destination, before being discharged in September, was ward 44. During my "holiday" I was treated with dignity, well looked after by professional and encouraging staff. I cannot praise the staff who cared for me highly enough. They rebuilt my confidence with their kind words. I tried my best to improve my mobility and always concerned that I was being  nuisance! Staff reassured me that was certainly NOT the case.

A massive thank you to the paramedics, doctors, nursing staff, physio, student doctors, porters, x-ray department, cleaners, kitchen staff who kept me well fed, escort driver who took me home after discharge. If I have missed anyone out-apologies.

On return home, the District Nurse, Helen, came in to give my injections. Thanks to her, I quickly overcame my fear of self-injecting, which pleased me because I didn't want to waste District Nurses time when they could provide their services to patients more in need than me! I had a few visits from Cherisse and Caroline, Occupational Health, who organised a couple of useful aids to assist me at home. What did I miss Most? Having a decent shower - SHEER BLISS!!! All the staff could not have been more helpful-nothing too much trouble - just hope that they know how much they are appreciated.

P.S. A student nurse in ward 44 apparently lives nearby-she's an angel.
