"Exceptional care and compassion"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Critical Care Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Emergency Department

(as a relative),

It was the early hours of the night when we received a call that our daughter would be arriving at the Emergency Department via air ambulance in a critical condition following an attempt on ending her life.

Our daughter’s condition was stabilized in the Emergency Department and then she was transferred to the Critical Care Unit. I cannot express my gratitude to every healthcare professional who looked after our daughter. From the consultant (Matt) who spoke to us on admission, to the nurses and doctors who cared for her in Critical Care.

Unfortunately I cannot remember everyone’s name, but thank you to Natalie who was so supportive when I arrived on the unit. All of the team are highly skilled professionals and you demonstrate such warmth and compassion to family. Thank you to the consultant who ensured our daughter was seen by the mental health team prior to discharge. Forever grateful to you all.

Dear Suseq58,

Thank you for taking the time to share your story with us - please accept my apologies for the delay in responding to you on here. I was pleased to see that you were so well supported by the Critical Care team, where your daughter was being treated during what must have been a very stressful, upsetting and frightening time for you and your family. The warmth and compassion you describe is something we strive for throughout the Trust and I am so happy you received it here.

I am responding to you as a member of the Patient and Family Experience team here at the Trust, but I will ensure the teams you came into contact with see your feedback with a particular mention to Matt and Natalie who will get a special "thank you" through our Learning from Excellence scheme.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your story with us.

Best wishes,

Jess
