"Trigger Finger Release (Stenosing Tenosynovitis)"

About: Cannock Chase Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I had trigger release surgery (or to keep Dr Raine happy, stenosing tenosynovitis). Naturally I was nervous, you're not human if you're not lol, but the nurses were great, very chatty, put me right at ease.

I would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to you all for all of your kindness, nothing was to much trouble, the nurse who took my notes and obs when I was taken to my waiting room (forgive me I can't remember her name) was fantastic, a great listener, if someone could give her a hug from me that would be great) and the nurse from Bulgaria was great at trying to keep my mind off the actually surgery.

I'm nosey and wanted to see what was going on, the human body fascinates me and Dr Raine bless him, twice let me look, he even took the time to explain what I was looking at. He cleaned out the inflammation and let me look again so I saw what the tendon should look like without the inflammation adhering to it. He then got me to bend my finger so I could see my own tendon working inside my own hand, it was amazing, fascinating stuff.

Dr Raine has got a wicked sense of humour and when he's in the right mood he can give as good as he gets, just being a doctor is stressful in itself and I really do appreciate that.

The nurses, bless em', knew exactly what they were doing. The two newbies weren't afraid to say when they didn't know something and needed to go and ask, being an ex-nurse myself I know how daunting it can be and their honesty at saying they needed to double check my question instead of trying to muddle their way through was a breath of fresh air.

If Dr Raine reads this then I've been good and done exactly what you've told me, bending and flexing my fingers as much as I can throughout the day and although I'm only on day 5 it's really working well, The middle finger is still a bit stiff and ever so slightly bent but nothing to what it was 2-3 days ago, I could barely straighten it.

To anyone who actually manages to read this far who has had this surgery, please do what the good doctor tells you, exactly as he tells you, you may think at the time that it's impossible to do because of it hurting and the stitches etc but keep on top of your painkillers and go for it, work through the pain, it's working for me.

Thank you to everyone on Holly Bank Ward at Cannock Hospital x
