"A negative experience of A&E"

About: Stepping Hill Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a relative),

My mother was brought into Stepping Hill hospital A&E via ambulance due to a fall at home. X-rays were taken then my mother was left on a bed in a corridor for hours.  She was then discharged.  She went outside to call my partner to collect her and then collapsed.  She was taken back into A&E and had to queue again for 7 hrs before seeing a doctor.

I think this is disgusting  and the whole system is broken. On the staffing board they were 2 staff short on days, 3 short on lates and 3 short on nights.  This really needs to be addressed.

A very negative experience of Stepping Hill.

Good morning,

I was very sorry to read about the experience your mother had while attended the Emergency Department at Stepping Hill Hospital. The Department is currently experiencing periods of significant demand and unfortunately this has impacted waiting times. I am sorry to see that your mother had to wait for 2 periods of time and fully appreciate that this would have been of concern to her and your family.

We have shared your feedback directly with the Emergency Department for professional learning and discussion. However, if you would like to discuss further you can contact us on Patient.Experience@stockport.nhs.uk

Kind regards,

Patient Experience Team
