"My family and I are so grateful"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / 1 North Cardiology

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

On Thursday morning I collapsed on my living room floor because of problems with my heart, my wife found me and called for an ambulance. She said they arrived quickly and when they entered my home they had to work on me for about half an hour before they could put me in the ambulance.

Then, whilst in the ambulance, they had to stop as my heart rate and blood pressure dropped very low. My heart had then stopped and the paramedics where able to bring me back to life. I wouldn’t be here now without the paramedic staff, my family and I are so grateful for what they done, they are really amazing.

I stayed in the Emergency Department for one night, and was brought to the ward the next day. The staff on the ward have been very helpful and the communication with the GPs has been great. The nurses and care assistants are always making sure you are okay, if they ever see any of the patients getting up they make sure to come over and ask if they need a hand.

I was placed in a side room for 2 days which was great, but then I got moved to the bay. The facilities are all well maintained considering they get used a lot. The food has been okay, they always offer tea and coffee which is nice. It would be better if they had a TV that worked on the bay, as it would pass time.

The ward is red at the minute so no visitors can come in which isn’t great, as I feel very lonely and bored,  it would be great being able to see my family.

Hi, thanks for taking the time to give us your feedback.

I am pleased you have had a good experience during your time in 1 North. Sorry you haven't been well and I hope you are on the mend.

I understand how difficult it is, not having visitors on the ward. Virtual visiting has been introduced to enable you to see your family virtually. Ask the nursing staff who will help to organize this for you,

Regards,

Eileen Magowan,

Clinical Sister 1North.
