I brought loved one to RAH medical assessment unit as agreed with go. A lovely nurse took him in and gave me ward phone number and said to call if I needed anything. Phoned ward to arrange to bring in loved ones clothes (on a Sunday) and was told I had to come in one hour slot (but not how to arrange the slot). Mutually agreed I could come in the morning as it was a quick drop off on the weekend.
I came in next day at 1:00pm, not knowing I was supposed to ‘book’ first. Luckily there weren’t other people visiting at that time in the room, so the visit went ahead. I asked if I could book a permanent 1:00pm slot to fit around other caring duties and was told this was impossible as he might be moved ward (I don’t see why it couldn’t just be cancelled if that happened).
I would love to have been given a written note about visiting arrangements when I first arrived, so all my misunderstandings would have been prevented. Also please consider exemptions of visiting hours for informal carers as is policy in the QUEH.
Thanks.
