"Finding myself again and accepting"

About: Mental Health Community Services / Condition Management Programme

(as a service user),

As I was struggling with my health and trying to hold down my job, I accepted help from CMP. I didnt know what to expect initially as I had lived with my condition for many years. Throughout my one-to-one sessions my therapist really helped me to re-look at how I went about my everyday activities, and I learned that I had to adapt both physically and mentally. I learned to allow myself permission to rest.

I felt I had so many pieces in my head about how to live my life with pain but didn't know how they all fitted together. CMP has made that happen. I felt like I was going about my life like an old train running out of fuel, I no longer feel that way.

The Zoom sessions meant that even on bad days I was still able to access this service and that really helped me a lot. Initially I wasn't sure about Zoom, but it really worked well for me and I really looked forward to my one-to-one sessions with my therapist.

I would recommend this service to anyone who is struggling with their health and needs a helping hand to take control back and live a better life.

Good morning,

My name is Rosalind and I am one of the Team Leaders in CMP.

Thank you for getting in touch through Care Opinion.

I was sorry to read that you had been struggling with pain and poor health for a long time. This must have been particularly difficult especially given that you were trying to remain in your job.

Your analogy of “an old train running out of fuel” has made your experience come to life.

It was good to read that your sessions in CMP helped you focus on everyday tasks and re think how you did things.

You have highlighted the importance of adapting which really is key.Your comment on the value of rest and allowing yourself to take rest periods is so important.

I think many readers will understand your initial reservations about using a remote platform such as Zoom.Thank you for sharing how it worked for you and enabled you to participate even on days when you would not have felt well enough to attend in person.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated and I think it will give newcomers to CMP a good idea of what we try to offer.

I will ensure the rest of the team can read your post.

Thank you again and very best wishes for the future,

Rosalind
