"My Treatment"

About: Leigh Infirmary

(as a service user),

I attended the walk-in centre at Leigh infirmary yesterday, the receptionist and the young nurse who originally saw me and took my details were both lovely, however, instead of a nurse then dressing my legs it was a young physiotherapist that called me in.

From the beginning it was plain they didn't want to do it he started with saying this should be the district nurse's job, they hardly spoke to me and started to clean my legs it was like they were scrubbing the kitchen floor, i told them they were really hurting me, and I am not soft, they just carried on, they then told me to leave but i told them I was  suppose to be having a tetnus injection, they tuted and went away to get it, they then gave me that and advised me to ring the district nurses for the first appointment.

I was really made to feel I shouldn't have been there, I do think they should have some lessons in how to deal with people I am 77yrs old and don't use this service unless I have to but was made to feel I went for nothing by them.

I have had nothing but bad pain in one of my legs since he scrubbed it.

Thank you for posting your story on this website. The Urgent Care Matron, has asked me to convey her apologies for your experience and for the way you felt about this. This is not how we would like our patients to feel when utilising this service.

She has assured me that she will discuss this concern with the team and ensure that all patients are made to feel welcome with the correct advice, education, and treatment required on each individual visit.

I hope that if you are required to use this service again then you will have a very different experience.

Yours sincerely

Vicky Bolton
