"A and e admittance and hospital admission"

About: The Ulster Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a service user),

I was in agony. Out of hours doctor recommended I go to a and e immediately. The day staff were beyond caring , kind and rapid in their response to me and my pain. Unfortunately, the night team, in particular, my nurse, were not a team. Pain relief was not managed appropriately, I was literally begging for help and other patients were asking the nurse to help me. I also heard this same member of staff referring to two other nurses in a highly discriminatory and inappropriate way when conversing with a doctor in the open public area. I am also recovering from a hysterectomy, post op for 2 weeks. When I eventually, after many hours in a chair, was offered a trolley, I was told to lift my overnight bag (considerable weight with water etc in) myself. I could not physically do this due to pain and another patient had to assist.

Hi left in pain

I am really sorry to hear about your experience, it is not the standard we would aim to provide or expect from our staff. I will remind staff in safety brief to be professional at all times in their interactions with patients and families.

Thank you for your kind comments about the day staff.

I hope you are now improving and soon feel much better.

Kind regards

Jenny
