“I did a session with my Speech and Language Therapist, Kavita, today. She gave me news that she will be leaving the team at the end of the month using a social story. This gave us a chance to think about the work we have done over the last 4 years and how I have found the support from SLT.
I shared that it has been nice having sessions, they have been good for the brain. It has been helpful having someone to chat to who I can trust. I have felt able to ask for a chat if I am worried or need information explaining. The sessions have helped me to understand things, it is good having information given to me in a simple way I can understand (like the feedback after my review meetings or social work sessions). This helps me to feel calmer and take in the information. This has helped me to feel supported and not on my own. Sometimes the news from meetings can be disappointing so I can need support.
I talked about how I have been at Alexander House too long now, over 4 years. This can be stressful for me. I am hoping to hear some good news soon.
I feel like the team listened to me when I spoke to them about wanting a new care team and I shared which staff I feel more trusting of. I find it easier to trust female staff and feel I get on best with that approach. The team surprised me by changing my care team to these people which I was very thankful for, I felt listened to. I am very happy with my care team at the moment- there are positive vibes. I also feel having a supportive team is helping me to have a better relationship with my mum as I don’t need to use her as much for support which would lead to us arguing a lot. Now I can focus more on having a nice time.
I am really enjoying my leave to visit my mum in her city and going to her house, this gives me some normality.”
