My grandad was admitted to ward 6 for Palliative Care for stage 4 small cell lung cancer after a 6 week short battle. As you can imagine we were not expecting such quick deterioration. The nurses were very understanding of this. The compassion, care and empathy demonstrated by nurses, clinical support workers, doctors and domestics was both professional and touching. They took the time to learn about my grandads life, what made him special and unique and related his life experiences, interests and personality to the conversations they held with us. I felt at ease that he was being cared for by people who genuinely cared about him. They informed us immediately to changes and were by our sides when we needed them to listen. They bantered with my grandad and held his hand at appropriate times. When things deteriorated more one nurse came into the room and spent his last moments with us, it was both touching and fitting as my grandad told us he trusts the nurses completely. I cannot express the gratitude I have for ward 6 staff enough. Please keep being as great as you are. It was so special and touching and I wouldn’t change a thing.
