My daughter hurt her finger playing basketball the other day at school, on returning from school I noticed her finger was very swollen and painful.
As we don’t have a minor injuries unit in Inverclyde I decided to take her to Inverclyde Royal Hospital A&E department. On arrival the department was obviously busy so I asked how long the wait was and it was estimated at 6 hours we decided to leave and call 111.The NHS 24 member of staff was so helpful and so was the clinician, they thought it may be fractured and arranged a video call with a nurse practitioner within 30 minutes.
The nurse practitioner was lovely and put my daughter and I at ease. She also thought it was fractured and arranged a time for us to visit A&E the following morning for an Xray.
Fortunately it is not broken and she has returned to school. I just wanted to highlight this fantastic service as I did not think it was possible due to the lack of minor injuries unit. The staff were so professional and helpful I feel they and the service deserve recognition. (also saved us a 6 hour+ wait in a&E)
