"Post surgery recovery"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / General Surgery (Wards 16-18)

(as a service user),

Twice I have had surgery at Wishaw and twice I have had underwhelming and uncompassionate care in recovery.

The 1st time I was very sedated so my blood pressure was low and I was hard to wake up. When I was awake I was light headed and yucky. My blood pressure was so low that every time I sat up or moved my blood pressure dropped to the point I would pass out and wake with nurses trying to bring me round. I genuinely though it was causing me to hallucinate however turns out I was not!! A staff nurse told me I was faking low blood pressure! This was witnessed by 3 other patients in recovery lounge, I was so upset about this that I forced my self out of bed and discharged myself home with care of family.

The 2nd operation I was taken to theatre hours late. I know there are pressures but when I asked how long I would be I was told that I just need to wait will be taken when your taken and that I wasn't a priority!

I felt the nurses tone was derogatory and in my opinion clearly couldn't be bothered with patients.

After surgery, a nurse came to me and told me to get up, and have a drink and something to eat. They told me that once I'd eaten, they needed to strip the bed and that they knew I was fit to go home. I said I was feeling queezy. They replied that we don't have time for queeziness and that I was the last patient. I felt that this nurse wanted me gone and it must have been near her finish time?

In both instances I felt there was zero care and compassion.

I have never had such poor treatment as that at Wishaw

Dear Yellow rose

Thank you for taking the time to feedback to us about your recent experience of University Hospital Wishaw, General surgery. It can be a worrying time attending hospital, and we always want to make things better for patients.

It would be helpful if you could contact Patient Affairs at University Hospital Wishaw so that they can understand the issues in more detail.

Kind regards
