I have been having trouble with my son at school since primary two. He has a short attention span, has difficulty expressing his feelings and gets angry and frustrated. I contacted a few local support networks, Camhs, our GP and we even had extra support at school. Nothing seemed to be consistent.
A worker from Camhs visited our house when my son was 8/9 years old and introduced himself with the intention of coming into school to work with him one day a week for an hour. The same gentleman went off on sick. Long term. We then experienced lock down. Once able I contacted Camhs again only to be told my son did not qualify for their help even though he was seeing them before lockdown. As a family we work very hard to help my son through his challenges.
Again this year we contacted our gp and Camhs as now my son’s frustration is displaying with aggression and as he’s almost 6 foot tall we are finding it hard to help him. I attended the Camhs appointment alone as my son refused to go, only to be told no discussion could be had as he was not present and hadn't given consent for us to discuss him even though he is not yet a teenager. Because of this we were discharged from Camhs immediately.
I contacted speech and language almost 12 weeks ago and had no reply. Where do I go now for help? As a parent it’s hard not being able to help your child.
