"Possible broken ankle"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Minor Injuries Assessment Service NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service)

(as the patient),

I was in PE at school and went over sideways on my ankle.  It was iced for 30 mins then my mum phoned 111 who were very efficient and within an hour I had an appointment at forth valley royal minor injuries.

Right from start to finish I was taken on my appointment time, assessed by Veronica the nurse practitioner, xrayed and diagnosed and back on my way home in 45 mins.  I can't promote this service enough - it saves waiting in ed for ages.

Dear Happy Teenager,

Thank you for taking the time to share your story on Care Opinion. I was really sorry to hear that you hurt your ankle at PE. School is hard enough without having to be there with a sore ankle! I hope you are now back on your feet and feeling much better.

I was really pleased to read that you received such great care from everyone who looked after you - from the Call Handlers at NHS 24, to Veronica and the team at NHS Forth Valley, and, last but not least, mum who called 111 for you!

We like to share stories like yours with the staff who were involved in your care. I would love to make sure that everyone who looked after you gets to read your story - if you or your mum would please contact me directly and share your details and the time of your call to 111, I would be pleased to find the staff you and mum spoke with and share your kind words with them.

You can contact me at patient.experience@nhs24.scot.nhs.uk or by phone on 0300 020 4846. Please mention - or ask mum to mention - your Care Opinion username when emailing or calling. I'm sure my colleagues at NHS Forth Valley will be equally delighted to read your story - and if there is a Care Opinion for mums, it sounds as though your mum deserves a mention too! Well done, mum!

Thank you again for taking the time to share your story. I hope your ankle is now much better after your experience and hope that PE lessons are less eventful for you in future!

Best wishes,

Andrew
