"Poor health visiting experience"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Speech and Language Therapy Community Services in Grampian

(as a service user),

My daughter is nearly 2 and a half years old and still isn't talking yet.

Her nursery teachers picked up on this before she turned 2 and asked if we had spoken to our health visitor. I told them that I had tried on numerous occasions to contact the HV but had no reply or no call backs. The nursery ended up trying to get in contact with them and they also struggled. Eventually we got a letter back in March 2022 from SALT stating they will give us a telephone appointment, then a video call appointment and only by then, if they feel it is even appropriate, then a face to face appointment will then be organised.

Nearly 6 months later, with no contact from the SALT team and absolutely no further information or contact from the health visiting team. We haven't even got the telephone appointment through from SALT. If my daughter does need input, this is going to be so delayed by time we even have this initial contact and this could be detrimental to her progress.

My daughter was born at the very beginning of the first lockown back in 2020 and we have hardly had any appointments with the health visitor. I understand that a lot of things were stopped during covid but for a first time mum who didn't actually know what was right for my daughter, to have basically no contact and no support I feel is disgusting. I was told that if I was a young teen mum then I'd have been seen. But because I'm not, we were basically on our own.

My daughter has missed out on so much due to the pandemic and now we are coming out the other side, she still isn't receiving the support she needs to progress. When will this change? Why is covid still being used as an excuse?

From a very frustrated mum.
