"My right hand."

About: Gravesham Community Hospital / Out of hours service

(as the patient),

I attended Gravesend Community Hospital with a foreign piece of something, under my skin, in the palm of my right hand. Although it seemed quite small, it was quite painful and was infected. After seeing the triage nurse, I was called in to see a nurse, by the name of Flora. She examined my hand and said she wanted me to have an X-ray!! I must say, I was amazed that I needed an X-ray!! After my X-ray, I was called back in to see FLORA and she said that the X-ray had not picked up anything, but there was definitely something there. She cleaned around the area and told me that she was going to try and lift the skin around the wound, so that she had an entry point to go into. She squeezed the puss out of the wound and got out a very minute piece of something black, may have been plastic. She put iodine on the affected area and put a plaster over the area and then bandaged my hand, so that the plaster stayed in position. I would like to take this opportunity, to thank Flora, for her very professional, first class attention, she was very  caring and gentle, put me at ease and informed me of everything she was going to do with my hand. She told me to keep the wound covered up for 24 to 36 hours and not to get it wet and, if the wound did not heal up properly, or had become infected again, then to come back to the hospital immediately. I’m pleased to say, that the wound has healed up, and I had no need to return to the hospital. Once again Flora, many thanks for your first class attention and all my very best wishes for the future.
