One evening in August I found my brother about to go into DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis)
I phoned an ambulance and didn't get through for about 10 minutes, when I finally spoke to someone they said we were a priority but the ambulance could be a few hours! I asked if it would be better to take him straight to A&E. Without hesitance they said yes if I felt safe to do so. We stood the ambulance down and I took him straight to Barnstaple.
The team at NDDH we absolutely fantastic and we were seen within 10 minutes. He was getting more poorly as the minutes ticked on. His bloods and relevant tests were completed and he was in a bed and having treatment within the hour! All whilst they were 2 members of staff down for the shift and rushed off their feet!
I would like to thank all the team that were involved in his care and say a special thank you to the triage nurse who was obviously rushed off her feet and saw him with a smile and kindness! You are all amazing!
Thank you 😍
"Amazing a&e care"
