"Colonoscopy."

About: King's Mill Hospital / Gastroenterology

(as a service user),

My story obviously is about me, because it  concerns my life and possibly about my death.

I was referred by my GP to The Endoscopy Dept.I received a phone call at the start of Aug telling me that I had a Colonoscopy appointment. Fine, I was advised to go on a low fibre diet, nothing else! My flushing kit would be available for collection on a couple days prior to my appointment.

I called a couple days before and was told Sorry we do not have any kits can I come back the next day. We will call you when available? I did not get any call so I had to ring twice to get any semblance of sense. I went to collect and was given an envelope and told everything you want is enclosed I accepted and went home.

When I looked at the envelope it said take this to the pharmacy dept so I had another journey to the hospital. Nothing had been mentioned about taking it to the pharmacy dept.

I read through the notes as instructed. I turned up for my procedure having gone through the tortuous experience of the flushing out and was told that the operation could not proceed because my  blood was too thin. I had not been told that I should come off Warfarin.

The whole saga is an utter disgrace. The cost to me is Four wasted days and approx £25 in petrol and parking fees and also could be my life. How important is that? I sincerely  hope that somebody of consequence takes the trouble to read this and does something about it.
