This week I was admitted to ward 7, PRI for an elective mastectomy due to a breast cancer diagnosis.
I was welcomed into the ward with a smile from Gloria, a registered nurse. I was shown to a single room and the room explained to me including call bell system and toilet facilities.
Trainee advanced nurse practitioner Shona came into the room and explained the plan for the morning, she was very professional, empathetic and caring. She kept me updated throughout my stay. I have poor venous access and Shona listened to my worries with this.
I was then introduced to Senior Charge Nurse Paula and CN Lynne who completed my pre theatre checks. I was nervous and anxious, but was reassured throughout the morning. The environment and staff felt incredibly calm and organised.
I met with the surgical team including Miss Macaskill, who was very thorough, took time to explain and answer all my questions with her expertise, experience and with kindness and empathy.
I met with Rachel, an anaesthetist who took time to listen to my fears and was able to provide reassurance. I found my care to be very patient centered and I felt listened to every step of the way.
The theatre team were wonderful, they had the perfect amount of light heartedness and I was treated with respect and dignity. A special shout out to Adrian who made me smile with his wonderful manner.
I’ll be forever grateful to you all, I felt safe the whole time during my stay and had no concerns about my care.
I have been provided with lots of information, sign posted to additional information if required and I am aware of my plan going forward.
Thank you!!
