"Lack of wheelchair facilities and bed shortages."

My daughter is a wheelchair user and suffers from stones in her kidneys and bladder. She is waiting for her next procedure to remove her stones, she is marked “urgent,” and I am tired fighting for her to be seen as she suffers terribly. It has been 4 months since her last procedure which was an emergency, as a stone was blocking her ureter. As well, due to the infected stones, she unfortunately also has severe UTIs every month causing her to vomit and aspirate.

I brought her to A&E yesterday at 10.30am. My Daughter was in her wheelchair for TWELVE and a half hours, as there was no bed (or portable hoist) available. She was so distressed and in need of being changed, I even phoned the hospital desk to ask if they had a toilet with a hoist so I could change her, turns out there isn’t.

The staff are wonderful but so frustrated at not being able to help or even provide a bed, she did get a trolley to lie on, and is being given antibiotics for her pneumonia and UTI.

We’re still in A&E, being looked after but no beds available in the wards where patients should be going to. This is unacceptable, in so many ways.
