"Breast Cancer Treatment"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Breast Clinic University Hospital Wishaw / Breast Clinic

(as a service user),

I called my G.P. in late March when I found a lump in my breast.  The ANP saw me the same day and referred me to the hospital.  I was seen within around 2 weeks for a mammogram and then a ultrasound scan and a biopsy.  I then attended Miss Barker's breast clinic at Hairmyres hospital who told me I had breast cancer.  I was then given information and assigned a Breast Care Nurse, Grace.  Miss Barker and Grace were so kind and understanding throughout the process and answered my questions and helped alleviate my fears.  I was kept updated with the next steps and sent for 2 MRIs and another ultrasound scan.  I then had surgery to remove the lump on 20th July at Wishaw with Mrs Lannigan as Miss Barker was on holiday and I have already given feedback on the fabulous care I received from the Wishaw team.  After surgery I called the Breast Care Nurse as my wound was leaking and she got back to me the same day with an appointment to come and see her (this was Wishaw Breast Nurse Margaret as Grace was on rest day).  Again fabulous service.  Again I called Grace to have dressing changed and got appointment same day and she also reassured me that my wound was healing ok.  I called Grace to ask if someone could call me with my results if they were in before my appointment with Miss Barker as it wasn't until 17th August and she said that they would look out for them and if they were in I could get them when I get my dressing checked today.  Miss Barker gave me my results today, in her usual positive upbeat and friendly manner which fortunately was good news and along with the Breast Care Nurse (sorry forgotten her name but other nurse at Hairmyres) explained the next steps would be radiotherapy and what would happen.  I asked if I could have a hug from them both and this was granted. I know I have gone into great detail here but just wanted to show the high level of care that I have received and to thank everyone involved in this care for their compassion and professionalism.  I know that so far my outcome has been positive and I know that not everyone is so fortunate but I am so grateful for everything that everyone has done, including G.P. ANP, Radiographers and Health Care Assistants at Monklands for MRI and Ultrasound and outpatients depts. Please thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for everything they do they are wonderful!

Dear Lills63,

Thanks you so much for taking the time to post a response at what has been a very difficult time for you. I am so glad that you received such good care from the teams involved in your care. I will pass on your comments to the Radiology team.

Kind Regards

Anne
