"She has become a friend"

About: Health and Social Care Northern Ireland

(as the patient),

My Community Psychiatric Nurse (CPN) from Grassmoor House is amazing, we have been having home visits for over 6 years firstly because my husband had dementia.

Terri-Ann was so good to us, she was helping us out with visits and carer’s before the pandemic and on one of those visits she realized that I was really struggling caring for my husband, I was so tired getting up to see to him five times every night that it was affecting my health both physically and mentally.

She spoke with the services, and they arranged for my husband to be put into a care home but it was 20 miles away from our home. My son visited after two weeks to discover that he had deteriorated rapidly there and was not walking or talking.

I was so upset I contacted Teri-Ann who managed to get him transferred to St Patrick’s which is much much closer to me. She also arranged that I was his care worker which meant that I could be with him all day in his room and care and spend precious time with him before he passed in December last year.

She checked up on me after this and saw I was ill also, she put herself out to get me the care and support I needed and I cannot praise her highly enough nor can I thank her enough, she has become a friend.
