"A bit frustrating"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

My care has been very good so far and I am very happy with how my child has been treated so far. I am very happy with the staff, they are very good at what they do and show they care. They have great explanations for tests and everything else their doing. The only confusing part of my care was the fact we originally wet to the normal ED reception which then sent us here which we were then informed we had to call to check in with the ED reception we were originally at which took about 7 times of ringing to get through. This is very confusing as they could’ve checked us in when there or checked us in at the Paeds ED reception. Was just a bit frustrating and in my opinion unnecessary.

Thank you for taking the time to reflect and give us feedback on your recent experience. When the Covid pandemic began we altered how children accessed the paediatric area of the emergency department to provide them with a higher element of protection and prevent them coming through the department. We do have a receptionist in the paediatric area during the day who is able to book the patients on to the computer system during the day. unfortunately in the evenings and overnight we don’t have the clerical staff to provide the additional cover and the phone call is made to our main ED reception for the patients to be booked on. I understand it seems difficult but the most important thing is the safety of the children therefore we will continue to have a separate entrance and waiting room for paediatric patients. The phone call will be required to have their details added to the system when there is not clerical staff cover in the paediatric area. I hope this has helped to explain your query.
