"Wrist surgery and Ward 1"

About: Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust

The care leading up to my day-case was really good but from arriving at Ward 1 early on a Tuesday morning to leaving later that night was truly fantastic. With only two ward staff to handle multiple, what seemed to be a variety of nervous / anxious / over-confident / demanding patients, they handled everyone with kindness, dignity, caring and efficiency. They were obviously a really good team with the HCA being still in training, you really wouldn't have known he was truly brilliant, the knowledge that the fully qualified nurse was there being very very busy and making sure all us patients were ready and moved quickly when the theatre teams were ready for us. After my procedure the continuity of that friendly, efficient and caring environment meant re-awakening a little confused was not an issue at all and just the right amount of privacy and inclusion was much appreciated. J + B seemed to be omnipresent, if I thought that I may need to change my position in my bed or suddenly felt very thirsty, they seemed to know exactly what I needed - all of us in the little ward said the same thing. As I was the last person to leave the ward that day, and being there since before 8am I truly did get to see what great teamwork can achieve. Further assistance from the staff of the female-side of the ward enabled staff to have a [very] late lunch break but the high level of care and attention did not fall at any point. For a patient with a non-medical background what I saw and felt made me extremely proud of the facilities that are so local to me. From the highly skilled and articulate surgeon and anaesthetic team to the fabulous ward team and latterly the physios Wrightington Hospital has proved to a nervous middle-aged man that, although being in pain is something definitely to be avoided, if you are and are referred to this hospital, you have the best possible skills and care on hand to get you on the road back to normality. I can't thank everyone enough. T H A N K Y O U
